Congratulations!
Alistratis cave is a visitable cave in Central Macedonia and is 6 kilometers from the village of the same name.
It is about 3 kilometers long, of which 1 kilometer can be visited. Its decoration includes, in addition to large stalactites and stalagmites in various colors and the rare eccentrics.
Eccentrics or helictites are rare formations that are created by “defying” the laws of gravity and following irregular paths.
The main feature of this cave is the wide variety of eccentrics. It is also characterized by the unique microscopic organisms (3 mm.) found within it, such as Alistratia Beroni, a unique species of isopod. The cave belongs to the network of caves of the Aggitis river gorge along with four other caves (Orfeas, Peristeronas, Ag Georgios).
The Alistratis Cave of Serres is considered one of the largest and most beautiful caves not only in Greece but also in Europe with a total length of routes that reach 3 km and are also accessible for people with special needs (PWD) who tour 1 km from that’s all. It is 6 kilometers southwest of the town of Alistratis Serres, in the location “Petrotos” and is accessible both from Drama (25 km) and Kavala (55 km), as well as from Thessaloniki (135 km via Serres or Asprovalta).
